Conference twittering

Has anyone applied twitter or some other brief social networking to gatherings like conferences or conventions -- especially those at which you there's too much cool stuff happening at once?

And if you were to provide this as part of the conference, could you use the data on the tweets somehow to get live and post-hoc data on participant response to the conference?
